Micromax’s Yu brand launches Yureka smartphone with Cyanogen OS

Micromax Yu YurekaMicromax’s subsidiary Yu televentures launched its first smartphone, named Yureka featuring Cyanogen’s OS 11 and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 64-bit octa-core processor. Earlier, Micromax got a case filed against the chinese smartphone maker OnePlus banning sales of its “Flagship Killer” device OnePlus One, as it infringes their exclusive deal with Cyanogen Inc. forusing the company’s branding and software in their Yu brand of devices.

Yureka is a dual-sim LTE device powered by a 2GB DDR3 RAM  priced at just Rs.8,999. So, that is another budget-friendly device from the Indian manufacturer that packs both the modern hardware and software. The Yu brand of Micromax focuses primarily on the youth and their rising interest in the latest technology.

The advantage that one gets on buying this device is the unlockable bootloader, and on the top of it, warranty will not void if one roots his Yureka. Woah!! this means you can customize the software in any way you want, without fearing for the warranty of the device as Yu offers free replacement and repair of the device at your doorsteps.

“Yu” Yureka – The Zeus of Phones Has Arrived

It comes with a 5.5 inch HD(1280×720 pixels) IPS display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection having an oleophobic coating that makes it smudge-proof. The 13MP auto-focus rear camera comes with Sony CMOS sensor and a flash. There’s also a 5MP front camera for taking all those pretty selfies. The device gets its power from a 2,500 mAh battery pack that gives a 210 hours of standby time, 8 hours of talktime and 7 hours of browsing time.

The Yureka bears 16 GB of onboard storage that can be expanded upto 32 GB using a microSD card. The dual-sim device supports a 4G and a 3G micro SIM card. With the 4G LTE connectivity, one gets fastest download speeds of upto 150 Mbps. Other connectivity options include USB 2.0, Bluetooth 3.0 and WiFi 802.11b/g/n.

The sale scenario of the CyanogenMod based Yureka is pretty much similar to that of Xiaomi’s. The pre-registration for the device starts on 19th of January from 2PM IST and the device itself will start shipping from the second week of January. Early buyers will also get a leather back cover worth Rs.999 absolutely free. Also, Yureka will be one of the first devices get the next version of the Cyanogen OS based on the new Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Yu brand also plans to launch a few more devices based on the Cyanogen’s custom ROM in the first quarter of 2015.
